in-school activities & inspo
We are working with girls and their schools to help make getting active and moving your bod way more accessible and waaaaaay more fun!
We are reaching out to girls and want to listen to you in a way where you feel heard!
We empower you and help you design and engage with experiences that you and your friends can connect with and enjoy in your own way.
Bring Kohine Maia
to your school.
How it all works.
Our Kōhine māia leader will come to the school and meet with your teachers and sports heads or coordinators and find out what your schools approach to sport and active recreation is!
We then know where we can help and how to ensure we can support your school, rather than adding in MORE stuff your teachers and students have to do!
Together we work with a small or large group of girls to design your own Kōhine māia product, and we find out how we can use everyone’s skills so you all can learn along the way too, and help make a difference in your school in your own way.
how we work together.
Together we make a plan.
It’s important we talk about what some of the barriers you find around getting active and enjoying sports and activities at your school.
We talk about..
Things that might stop you wanting to give it a go
Ways the school or your peers can encourage girls more
Things that you would like to try but haven’t seen an opportunity to yet
Things the school might need to support girls being more active or participating
Ways you would like to feel more supported or prepared when being active or trying new things.
We like to chat about the above, and share ideas which help us all put a plan together and get exciting about organising some activities!
We also like to discuss..
When you might like to attend these activities or events
A time or place that would work for everyone
What you might need to do to get things started - like talk to teachers, book classrooms, arrange equipment, put a notice out, start letting people know.
Motueka High School
Working with Motueka High in Term 2 (post Covid-19 lockdown), an elective class was established in partnership with Terina from the Soulutions Sports Trust who has been working extensively with the school in their sports participation space. We worked together to provide an opportunity for a group of 8 Y11-12 girls and two Y13 leadership girls to feel empowered to share their love of active recreation and sport with more girls at their school and also enjoy their time together as a group. The girls wanted to create fun and enjoyable activities or sports events in their school to their peers and further support more girls to feel confident to join in!
As a pilot for this term - Term 3 we aim to increase the amount of activities and impact we have in the school by getting more girls involved in the activities and also having some epic experiences with the elective group out side of school - like snowboarding, walks and climbing.
Session 1 - Brain storming, identifying barriers, yum snacks, and fun games
Session 2 - Learn and explore a fun game of tennis and round robin, yummy lunch and summary session
Session 3 - Planning session - team building, communication games, and we brought our top 2 ideas to the table around who, what, where, when and how, and steps to put the activities into action.
Session 4 - Movie day - watching Gutsy Girls films and eating our fave food - pizza! (we had planned SUP but the weather wasn’t suitable)
